Carnival of Goa

February is the month of the Carnival. The 4-day festivities start on the evening of the 25 th along the southern banks of the Mandovi river in Panjim.
The word Carnival (Carnaval in Portuguese) is derived from a Latin word meaning ‘to take away meat' and is an expression of the 40-day period of fasting of Lent, during which abstinence from meat is a rule.

Over 65 floats will form the vibrant, pulsating entourage of King and Queen Momo! There'll be dances to the tunes of the famed Goan brass bands, theme parties and fun and merry-making. We don't need an excuse for merry-making & Partying. The floats and parades will do the rounds of the various towns and city centers. It's a festival unique to Goa - unparalleled revelry before the season of fasting and Lent.

The carnival is not celebrated anywhere else in India and was in decline even in Goa in the last few years of Portuguese rule. Its revival with the Liberation of Goa, and a boost to its tourism was therefore welcome. From being almost on the brink of decline, this three day festival of gay abandon and riotous revelry now attracts thousands of tourists to Goa from all over India and the world every year! The carnival in Goa is he three days of dancing, three days of boundless music, three days of extravagant fun but the memories that you gather from the carnival of Goa is going to last a life time. The carnival in Goa is one place to be if you want to forget all the cares in the world and simply flow along in a river of happiness and fun.

So bring your party clothes and get ready for some fun! Viva Carnival!
